Future of the Forests
Future of the Forests is a learning resource for secondary students and the general public that examines local and global forestry through case studies in British Columbia and Indonesia. It deals with questions, definitions and concepts pertaining to issues of sustainability from several perspectives, including that of indigenous peoples, and a North-South view. There is a growing need to increase public understanding of the complexities and importance of forest issues. This includes an understanding of the global context of forestry issues, and learning from different management strategies that are being used around the globe. Future of the Forests sheds light on the increasingly global nature of forests and forestry issues, and the interconnectedness of environmental and development issues. The British Columbia and Indonesian case studies provide excellent global examples of forest issues, forest use and sustainable alternatives.

Follow the Paper Trail: Technology, Wood Consumption & Alternatives
Module 2: The Technology Trap Series
The second module in the highly successful “Technology Trap” Series, this resource on appropriate technology encourages students to analyze their wood and paper use. Activities and background information help students examine how technology has actually increased our use of paper products, understand the consequences for forests and the environment, and learn about alternatives and positive actions. Students develop critical thinking skills by assessing the local and global impacts of various technologies, and by identifying the role they can play as informed consumers of forest resources.
